Message from Honorary Headmistress and Curriculum Director

Educating children is a joy, a privilege and a profound responsibility. The rewards are commensurate with the expertise and dedication of the teacher coupled with the appeal and relevance of the learning materials. We understand this and are committed to implementing these principles in guiding your child on an exciting journey of learning with us.

Education is not a set of adult-imposed facts or skills for children to memorize or master; rather, it is an engagement with multiple environments and exciting experiences for children to explore. Challenges lead to higher levels of learning. In this process children gain in knowledge and skill.  Learning becomes relevant and meaningful. Understanding and the ability to complete tasks builds success and confidence, as well as a love of learning and a willingness to explore further. Competence flourishes with clarity and purpose. This is the foundation for scholarly attitudes in the future.

Children learn best when they are valued, supported and challenged. The school setting assumes a special and important role. A child-centered program has dedicated professionals who engage students in the active exploration of ideas and encourage them to construct their own knowledge while helping them develop mastery of skills and processes as well as allowing them to make mistakes and retry with confidence. With these constructs in place children can become learners, sure of their self-worth, caring and empathetic towards others, alive to and excited by their world, willing to take risks and strive for excellence.

I am sincerely proud to be part of this process.

Welcome to St. Hilary’s Kindergarten and Nursery.
